Chicken Scratch Books and Courses

Chicken Scratch Books is a publisher of new traditional middle grade fiction. Our books are clean and based in traditional values, with a focus on strong writing. We have books in many different genres so kids can find what they are interested in reading. For each of our books, we create two online book study courses, unique to each story. Our courses are video-based, self-paced, with lifetime access. Students have video instruction, online work, and paper and pencil assignments as they work through reading a great book. The Explore Course is focused on exploring the virtues embedded in each book. It's a discussion based book-club-like study that is great for individuals, groups, or families. The story is questioned through interviews, and the character's arc of change is explored. Students also get to meet the author through two videos. The Analysis Course is an academic deep dive into strengthening language arts skills. This is an independent course for middle school-age kids. Students participate in guided close reading, vocabulary work, a focus skill that culminates in a written essay, and comprehension quizzes. They get to meet the authors in this course, too. With the goal of producing more discerning readers, the Analysis Course is a great supplement to any language arts curriculum. Parents can trust all our books to provide quality, engaging storytelling without any of the agendas so prevalent in today's books for kids. Plus, we give you the option to use those great books to their greatest effect through online book study courses.
