New Hampshire Dance Institute (NHDI) is a nonprofit arts in education organization that enriches the educational, intellectual, physical and social-emotional development of school children of all abilities and backgrounds by offering accessible in-school, curriculum-based, thematic dance enrichment programs to children in pre-kindergarten through eighth grade during their school day. NHDI was founded in 1986 to bring dance into Monadnock Region schools ensuring that all children would have access to choreographed dance instruction, live music and performance opportunities regardless of their abilities, family background and resources. With a focus on accessibility and arts equity, current programming stretches beyond the Monadnock Region throughout the state reaching more than 4,500 children in the current 2023-2024 school year. Year Long Program - A year-long weekly instructional class for students who choose this in-school, arts enrichment activity as an elective. Class is led by professionally trained NHDI Teaching Artists accompanied by highly skilled musicians. With perseverance and new-found skills, in full costume and accompanied by a professional live orchestra, dancers present their work alongside regional peers in a full theatrical production on the main stage at Redfern Arts Center at Keene State College each May. This program continues to thrive in thirteen schools throughout the Monadnock Region. Yearly outreach achieved: 300+ children with 2,500 patrons experiencing the arts. Summer Programs - Independently and collaboratively, NHDI offers three summer camp experiences in the Monadnock Region: one-week camp in collaboration with Keene State College Kids on Campus, one-week camp in collaboration with Peterborough Recreation Department, and a two-week independent NHDI Summer Intensive including returning guest Master Teaching Artist Dufftin Garcia of NDI, New York. Although not a requirement, the majority of campers first experience NHDI in their school environment and seek these extended learning opportunities. In response to demand and regional requests, we are actively collaborating with several organizations to increase our summer programs for Summer 2025. Yearly outreach achieved: 200+ children and 500 friends, families and supporters experiencing the arts. Special Teams & REACH Program - As an extension of the other three programs, students are selected & invited to further explore their dance abilities and commitment to the artform with additional instruction outside of school hours. Among the 5 teams is our REACH (Realizing Excellence and Creating Happiness) Adaptive Dance Program Team, providing children with disabilities the opportunity to experience movement with a live musical component while partnering with age-matched, neurophysical-typical peers. All teams are incorporated into the theatrical production at Keene State College Redfern Theater in May. Yearly outreach achieved: 125 children
